Peeping Paint Lids
Peeping Paint Lids
Create your own pictures with paint lid eyes.
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make the Peeping Paint Lids. Place the piece of paper in front of you, this will be the background. To make the wall place the piece of brown paper halfway down the purple paper. To make the monster's head take another piece of coloured paper and tear a rough arc shape. Then place this behind the wall and glue everything down.
Step 2
For the monster's hands take a lighter shade of paper and draw three sausage shapes for each hand, make them slightly curved. Add detail to the fingers by drawing small squares on a lighter brighter piece of coloured paper to make fingernails. Then cut it all out but be careful as scissors are sharp. Place the fingers and the fingernails on top of the wall and then glue them down.
Step 3
For the monster hair, rip out little triangles from the coloured paper. Then glue them to the top of the monster's head.
Step 4
For the eyes take the old plastic lids that flip up but ask an adult to thoroughly clean them out beforehand. Now you need to paint the lids with a special gloopy mixture made up of half paint and half gloopy glue. Leave them to dry. Glue around the rim of each lid and stick them to your picture.
Step 5
You can make other Peeping Paint Lid Pictures.
This should take about 30 mins
You will need:
- Two plastic flip top lids
- Some coloured paper
- Glue
- Some paints
- A black pen

Funky Birds Nest
Funky Birds Nest
Grab some wool and have a go at this make.
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make the Funky Birds Nest. Take the three old plastic bowls but make sure you have permission to use them beforehand. Put a large bundle of string into each bowl and then add a different colour paint to each, you can choose whatever colours you like. Then add a dollop of gloopy glue to each and give it a good mix.
Step 2
Take the final old plastic bowl but make sure you have permission to use it. Turn it upside down on a tray. Now cover the whole bowl in the special gloopy string. Now do the same with the other coloured gloopy string. It's a good idea to wipe your hands before you start putting the other coloured string over the bowl so you don't mix the colours up. Then leave this to dry overnight.
Step 3
When it's all dry very carefully push the bowl out. You will then be left with a string nest. To make the bird to go in the nest take the two pompoms. Glue them together. For the eyes take the white stickers and draw a black dots with a pen for pupils and stick them on. To make the birds beak take a piece of orange card and cut into a triangle shape. Be careful though because scissors are sharp. Then stick the beak onto the bird. Now stick the bird into the nest and add the shredded tissue paper around it.
Step 4
Try making different Funky Birds Nests.

Bowl Dinosaur
Bowl Dinosaur
Make your own dinosaur out of a bowl!
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make the Bowl Dinosaur. Take the newspaper and roll it into a small dumpy sausage shape. You don't have to be too neat. Then stick it together with some sticky tape. Make sure you have permission from an adult to use the plastic bowl. Place the rolled up newspaper in the bowl to make the first leg, then repeat three more times so the dinosaur has 4 legs. Make sure the legs are the same size so that the dinosaur stands up. Now stick all of the legs to the bowl in a square.
Step 2
To make the dinosaur's tail take another sheet of newspaper and roll it up like before. Twist the end a little so it's a bit thinner and then stick it together with some sticky tape. Now stick this to the bowl. To make the dinosaur's neck take another piece of newspaper and roll it up as before. Now bend the end over and then over again to make it a bit thicker, as this will be the head. Now stick it all together using sticky tape and then stick it on to the front of the bowl, again using sticky tape.
Step 3
Mix some gloopy glue with a drop of water so it is runny like custard. Then paint a layer of this over the dinosaur and stick some pieces of ripped up kitchen roll on to it. Leave to dry.
Step 4
Now paint the dinosaur. You can use whatever colour you like. When the paint is dry you need to stick on the googly eyes.
Step 5
You can make different types of Bowl Dinosaurs.
This should take about 45 mins
You will need:
- An old plastic bowl
- An old newspaper
- Sticky tape
- Some PVA glue
- Some paint
- Kitchen rolls
- Googly eyes (you can get these from an arts and crafts shop)

Gargoyle
Make a friendly gargoyle face.
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make your own Gargoyle. Start by making the mouth. To do this take a sheet of newspaper and roll it up. Then give it a little twist and stick it together with sticky tape. Now bend it around into a loop shape and stick this together with more tape. Finally, squeeze it into a mouth shape.
Step 2
Take the paper plate and turn it upside down. This will be the face. Place the mouth on to the plate and stick it into position. To make the nose take another sheet of newspaper and scrunch it up into a pear shape. Tape it together and then stick it in the middle of the face.
Step 3
Now roll up two small balls of newspaper for nostrils and then tape them either side of the nose. For the eyes use half a sheet of newspaper to make thinner twists, roll it up. Use some sticky tape to hold it in position, now loop it round. You can always tear off a bit of the loop to make your eyes smaller and then stick it together. Then stick them to the plate. For the pupil in the middle scrunch up a ball from a smaller piece of newspaper and stick in the middle of the eye shape, do the same on the other side.
Step 4
Add some extra detail by cutting out some cardboard squares for gargoyle teeth and some cardboard triangles for ears. Be careful though because scissors are sharp. This can be a bit fiddly so you may want to ask an adult to help. Then stick them on to the face. This bit can get messy so put your gargoyle on an old tray. Now cover the whole thing in a layer of gloopy glue. Before the glue has dried sprinkle some play sand all over it. Then shake off the extra sand and leave it to dry. Now you can paint the gargoyle a nice stony grey colour, add some white highlights and use black paint for the darker details.
Step 5
Try making another Gargoyle.
This should take about 45 mins
You will need:
- A paper plate
- An old newspaper
- An old tray
- Some scraps of cardboard
- PVA glue
- Sticky tape
- Some paint
- Play sand (you can get this from a toy shop)

Wobbly Pictures
Wobbly Pictures
Make some wibbly wobbly pictures using pipe cleaners.
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make the Wobbly Pictures. Take a piece of coloured card and draw a picture on it, this can be anything you like that will then wobble. As an example you could draw a bird. You then need to draw a couple more pictures on some different coloured card that will also wobble. For example, if you have drawn a bird you may then like to draw a cloud and a sunshine. When you've drawn all of your pictures you then need to cut them out. But be careful, scissors are sharp.
Step 2
Next take some pipe cleaners that match the colour of the card you used for your pictures. Turn your pictures over and stick the pipe cleaners to the back of them using sticky tape.
Step 3
Take a ball of air drying clay and wedge it into the plastic plant pot.
Step 4
Now arrange your wobbly pictures in the pot. It's good to arrange the pictures so that the ones nearer the front are slightly shorter. Therefore carefully snip the end of the pipe cleaner off the picture you want at the front of the pot. But be careful as scissors are sharp.
Step 5
Once you have stuck the pipe cleaners into the pot you can bend them slightly so you can see all of the pictures. You can make all sorts of Wobbly Pictures.
You will need:
- A plastic plant pot
- Some pipe cleaners
- Coloured card
- A felt tip pen
- A pair of scissors
- Some sticky tape
- Some air drying clay (you can get this from an arts and crafts shop)

Firefly
Firefly
Make your own firefly that glows in the dark!
What to do:
Step 1
Gather together all the things that you need to make the Firefly.
Step 2
Take the white craft foam and draw two eyes on it. Make sure the eyes are together so when you cut them out they are in one piece. Draw some dots in the middle with a black pen. Now draw two wings. Carefully cut out the eyes and wings but remember scissors are sharp.
Step 3
Take the black piece of craft foam and draw some antennae. Cut these out, again remembering scissors are sharp.
Step 4
Using a piece of string tape it to your plastic bottle. Take the antennae and stick it to the bottle top, making sure the top is still able to twist off. Now stick the eyes to the bottle by looping a piece of sticky tape so it is sticky on both sides.
Step 5
Attach the wings in the same way with sticky tape. Take the glow stick and bend it until you hear it snap - it will then begin to glow. Then give it a shake. Take the bottle top off and put the glow stick in the bottle. Then put the lid back on the bottle. This is a bit tricky so you may need to ask an adult to help. Now you can hang it up by attaching some string to the bottle. You can make as many as you like!
This should take about 45 mins
You will need:
- Empty plastic bottle
- Some white and black craft foam
- Some scissors
- Some sticky tape
- Some string
